Track expenses automatically from bank notifications
Your banking app already tells you about every card payment. Wally can read that notification on your phone and add the purchase to your budget: amount, merchant and category, with no bank login and no subscription.

Free in Wally. Apps that connect to your bank directly charge for it: YNAB costs $109 a year, Monarch $99.99 and Copilot $95, and their bank connections cover only some countries. Notification import works with any banking app that notifies you, in any country, and costs nothing.
How it works
- Only the bank you connect. Wally reads the notifications of the banking app you pick. Chats, one-time codes and other apps are ignored, and mail and messaging apps are never offered as banks.
- On your phone. The notification is read on the device. Its text is never sent anywhere or stored on a server.
- Categories without the cloud. Wally picks a category from a built-in list of shops and from your own choices: change the category of a purchase once, and the next purchases at that merchant follow.
- You stay in control. Every import shows a notification with Undo. Disconnect the bank in Wally or turn off notification access in Android settings at any time; your wallets and records stay.
Set it up
- Install Wally from Google Play and open it. You don't need an account.
- Start connecting a bank. On the Wallets tab, tap the Bank sync tile on a wallet card, or Connect a bank while you create a new wallet.
- Allow notification access. Wally explains what it reads; tap Continue, then Open settings, and turn on notification access for Wally.
- Choose your bank. Banking apps that have shown a payment notification on this phone appear under Detected on this phone; others are listed by country. You can pick several banks, and they all go into one wallet.
- Choose the wallet. Create a new wallet named after the bank, or add the bank to a wallet you already have, and tap Connect.
- Pay as usual. The next card payment appears in Wally by itself, and a notification tells you what was added.
Which banks work
Any banking app that shows a notification with the amount for each payment. Wally knows the exact format of these apps' notifications:
- Swedbank, SEB, Citadele and Luminor in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia
- Revolut, Wise and N26 in every country
Notifications from other banks are read with a general parser that finds the amount, currency, merchant and whether money came in or went out. Purchase refunds and incoming payments are recorded as income.
If a payment doesn't appear
- Turn on payment notifications in your banking app. Wally can only add what the bank tells you about.
- Let Wally run in the background. On Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung phones, allow Wally to run in the background, or the system may stop the import.
- Check the wallet card. A dot on the card shows whether the import is working, has lost notification access, or runs on another of your phones.
- Each phone imports its own notifications. If you use Wally on two phones, a bank connected on one phone imports there, and the records sync to the other.
Good to know
Notification import starts from the moment you connect: it does not bring in older history or your bank balance. Payments your bank does not notify you about, such as some direct debits, still need to be added by hand or as a recurring record.
