How to keep a budget in several currencies
Euros on your card, dollars in savings, pesos in your pocket on holiday and a little Bitcoin. Many budget apps can't add that up: YNAB, Monarch, Copilot and Goodbudget keep a budget in one currency. Wally keeps each wallet in its own currency and converts the rest for you, for free.

Set it up in Wally
- Pick your main currency. In Settings, choose the currency you think in. Totals and charts are shown in it.
- Create a wallet for each currency you hold: a euro card, a dollar savings account, cash in the local currency, a crypto wallet. More than 150 world currencies and cryptocurrencies are available, and there is no limit on wallets.
- Record in the currency you paid. Paid 100 euros from a dollar card? Enter 100 EUR; Wally shows the amount in dollars right under it, records it in the card's currency and keeps the original 100 EUR on the record.
- Move money between currencies with a transfer. A transfer from a euro wallet to a dollar wallet is converted automatically, so both balances stay right.
- Budget across currencies. A budget has one currency; spending from wallets in other currencies is converted into it, so a trip budget in euros counts card payments in any currency.
About exchange rates
Wally updates exchange rates automatically, usually once a day. They are reference rates, not the exact rate your bank charged, so a converted amount can differ by a little from your statement. When you need it exact, record the amount in the wallet's own currency as it appears on the statement.
Tips for travel
- A wallet for the trip. Create a cash wallet in the local currency, and a budget for the trip's dates with your own start and end.
- Profiles for shared trips. Travelling with someone? Give each person a profile and see who spent what.
- Automatic import abroad. Card payments still arrive from your bank's notifications on Android, or from Apple Pay on iPhone, wherever you pay. See the Android and iPhone guides.
- Works offline. Records are saved on the phone without internet; rates and sync catch up when you are back online.
Which budget apps handle several currencies
Among popular apps, Wally, Toshl, Spendee, Wallet by BudgetBakers, Money Lover, Cashew and Bluecoins support several currencies; Money Manager does too, but you enter rates by hand. YNAB, Monarch, Copilot and Goodbudget work in a single currency per budget. See the full comparison.
