Price

Is Wally really free?

Yes. Wally has no subscription, no paid tier, no in-app purchases and no ads. Every feature is free for everyone: budgets, unlimited wallets, 150+ currencies, recurring payments, charts, profiles, sync between Android and iPhone, automatic expense import and the ChatGPT and Claude connector.

Why is Wally free, and how does it make money?

Wally is an independent app made in Latvia. It does not make money from you: there is nothing to buy in the app, it shows no ads, and your financial data is never sold or used for advertising.

Is there a premium version or a free trial?

No. There is only one version of Wally, and it is the full one. Nothing is locked, so there is no trial that ends.

Getting started

Do I need to create an account?

No. Install Wally and start adding expenses; your records stay on your phone. Sign in with Google only if you want sync between devices and a backup in your Google Drive.

Does Wally work on Android and iPhone?

Yes. Wally runs on Android 7.0 or later and on iOS 16 or later. Use the same Google account on both phones, and the same budget, wallets and history appear on each of them.

Which languages does Wally support?

English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish, Latvian, Estonian, Indonesian and Hindi.

Does Wally work offline?

Yes. Records are saved on the phone, so you can add and view them without internet. Sync and fresh exchange rates need a connection; they catch up the next time you are online.

Automatic import

Can Wally connect to my bank?

Not with a bank login. Wally never asks for your bank password and does not use open banking. Instead, on Android it adds purchases from the notifications of the banking app you connect, and on iPhone it records Apple Pay payments through a Shortcuts automation. Both happen on your phone. How notification import works.

Which banks work with notification import on Android?

Any banking app that shows a notification with the amount for each card payment. After you allow notification access, Wally lists the banking apps it has seen on your phone. It knows the exact notification format of Swedbank, SEB, Citadele and Luminor in the Baltics and of Revolut, Wise and N26, and reads other banks with a general parser. If your bank sends no notification for a payment, turn payment notifications on in the banking app.

How does Apple Pay import work on iPhone?

You create one automation in the Shortcuts app. Each time you pay with Apple Pay, it passes the amount, merchant and card name to Wally, and the expense appears in your wallet even while Wally is closed. It works for contactless Apple Pay payments at a terminal. Shortcuts also runs on a declined payment, so delete such a record by hand. Step-by-step setup.

Do my bank notifications leave the phone?

No. Notifications are read on the phone and their text is never sent anywhere or stored on a server. Wally reads only the notifications of the banking app you connect and ignores chats, codes and other apps. Categories for imported purchases are picked on the phone too, from a built-in list of shops and your own past choices.

Budgets, wallets and currencies

Can I set budgets?

Yes, as many as you need. A budget can be weekly, monthly, yearly or for your own dates, and cover one or more categories or all spending. Wally warns you when spending gets close to the limit and when it reaches it.

How many wallets can I have?

As many as you like: cash, cards, savings or crypto. Each wallet has its own currency, and transfers between wallets are converted automatically.

Which currencies does Wally support?

More than 150 world currencies and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Exchange rates update automatically, so totals across wallets in different currencies add up in your main currency. Keeping a budget in several currencies.

Can I track recurring payments like rent and subscriptions?

Yes. A recurring record repeats every day, week, month or year, for example on the 1st of each month or on the last Friday, and Wally adds it on its date.

Can I keep personal and family expenses apart?

Yes, with profiles. Each record belongs to a profile, such as you, your partner or your business, and Home and History can show one profile or all of them together.

Privacy, sync and backup

Where is my data stored?

On your phone. If you turn on sync, Wally keeps an encrypted copy (AES-256) in a hidden app folder of your own Google Drive, which Wally alone can see; it reads no other Drive files. No Wally server stores your financial records.

Does Wally collect any data?

Usage statistics and crash reports only if you allow them: Wally asks before collecting them, and the answer can be changed in Settings → Legal. Then it uses Firebase Analytics for pseudonymous feature events and Crashlytics for crash reports, as described in the Privacy Policy. It does not sell personal financial data or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Settings → Export and import creates a password-protected backup file that you can save or share and import on another phone, merging it with existing records or replacing them. The file uses Wally's own format, not a spreadsheet.

How do I delete my data?

Delete your account in Settings. That removes your records from the phone and the backup from your Google Drive.

ChatGPT and Claude

Can I use Wally from ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes, for free. Connect the “Wally: Budget Tracker” connector with the Google account you use for sync, then ask how much you spent or add expenses, income and transfers in the chat. How to connect.
