Mint shut down. Here is a free budget app to replace it.
Mint was free, and that was the point. When Intuit closed it, most Mint users were sent to Credit Karma or to paid apps. Wally keeps what people used Mint for, budgets and a clear view of spending, and keeps it free.

What happened to Mint
Intuit announced on October 31, 2023 that Mint was going away, and the app shut down on March 23, 2024. Users were invited to move to Intuit Credit Karma, which tracks net worth, spending and cash flow for free but, as CNBC noted, lacks Mint's budgeting features. Today mint.intuit.com points to Credit Karma.
Wally is free, like Mint was, but with no ads and no paid tier: budgets, categories, charts, several wallets and currencies, recurring payments, sync between Android and iPhone and automatic expense import cost nothing.
What Mint users miss, and what Wally does
| Mint (until 2024) | Wally | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, with ads and offers | Free no ads |
| Budgets | Monthly category budgets | Weekly, monthly, yearly or custom budgets, with alerts |
| Transactions | Bank login through an aggregator | Bank notifications on Android, Apple Pay on iPhone, no bank login |
| Categories | Automatic | Automatic for imported purchases, learned on your phone |
| Currencies | US and Canadian accounts | 150+ currencies and crypto |
| Where data lives | Intuit's servers | Your phone, plus an encrypted copy in your Google Drive |
| Credit score, investments | Yes | No |
Wally is a budget and expense tracker, not a full money dashboard: it does not show credit scores, investment portfolios or bills from a bank feed. For the everyday question "where did my money go this month, and am I within budget?", it does the job without a fee.
Other Mint alternatives
- Credit Karma (free): net worth, credit score and spending, without Mint's budgets.
- Monarch ($99.99 a year) and YNAB ($109 a year): strong budgeting with bank connections, no free version. Wally vs YNAB.
- Goodbudget, Spendee and others have free plans with limits. See what each free plan includes.
