Wally in ChatGPT and Claude

Ask how much you spent and add expenses, income, and transfers right in ChatGPT or Claude. The chat works with the data you sync to Google Drive, so it is the same data as in the Wally app. You can start in the chat; the app is optional: App Store · Google Play.

1. What You Can Ask

  • “How much did I spend on food in September?” — a pie chart by category
  • “Show my spending by month this year” — a line by month
  • “Coffee 4.50 and taxi 12 yesterday” — two expenses, shown as cards with an Undo button
  • “My salary came in, 3,200” — income
  • “I transferred 200 euros from my card to savings” — records a transfer between your own wallets
  • “The taxi yesterday was 15, not 12” or “Delete the supermarket purchase from 3 October”
  • “What are my balances?” — your wallets with their balances
  • “How am I doing on my food budget?” — what is spent and left in your budgets
  • “What subscriptions do I pay?” — your recurring payments and their next dates
  • “Am I saving anything this year?” — income against expenses by month

Before adding or changing records, ChatGPT and Claude can ask you to allow the action, and you can undo it afterwards. Wallets, categories, and recurring payments are managed in the app; the chat uses the ones you have.

Wally is bookkeeping only: it records what you tell it and never moves money, makes payments, or connects to bank accounts.

2. Connect ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open the apps directory and find Wally: Budget Tracker, or tap Open in ChatGPT in the Wally app under Settings → ChatGPT and Claude.
  2. Tap Connect and sign in with Google — the same account you use in the Wally app (see Section 5).
  3. On Google's screen, keep the box for access to Wally's data in Google Drive ticked. Wally sees only its own folder, never your other files.
  4. Back in ChatGPT, ask away. If Wally is not picked up automatically, mention it: “in Wally, add coffee 4.50”.
ChatGPT apps are not available in every country and plan. If you do not see Wally in ChatGPT, use Claude.

3. Connect Claude

  1. On claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors and find Wally: Budget Tracker, or tap Open in Claude in the Wally app.
  2. Tap Connect, sign in with Google (the same account as in the app), and keep Google Drive access ticked.
  3. The connector then works in Claude on the web, in Claude Desktop, and in the Claude mobile apps.

If Wally is not listed in the directory yet, add it as a custom connector (Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector) with the URL https://mcp.watch-my-wallet.com/mcp.

4. Claude Code

Install the Wally plugin, which adds the connector and tips for Claude on how to use it:

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in with Google when asked.

5. Use the Same Google Account

Wally keeps your data in an encrypted backup in your Google Drive. The chat reads that backup, so sign in to ChatGPT or Claude with the Google account you use for sync in the app (Settings → Google Drive). If Wally answers that an account has no records yet and the email is not the one you expected, remove the connector and connect again with the right account.

If you signed in to the app with Apple, or use it without signing in, connect Google Drive in the app first: Settings → ChatGPT and Claude → Connect Google. If you already created records in the chat with that Google account, the app merges them with its own: nothing is lost, and you may see two wallets, one from the chat and one from the app.

6. Changes on Your Phone

Records added in the chat appear in the app after its next sync: when you open the app, or right away with Settings → ChatGPT and Claude → Sync now. Records you add in the app reach the chat after the app syncs them.

7. Start Without the App

You can keep your budget in the chat alone. The first expense or income you add creates a wallet in its currency, named in the language of your chat, with Wally's standard categories. When you install the app later, sign in with the same Google account on the welcome screen, and your records from the chat are there.

8. Privacy and Disconnecting

Our connector service reads and writes your encrypted Google Drive backup only while it answers a request, and it does not store your financial data or write it to logs. What you ask about is sent to the assistant you use (OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude) and handled under its terms. Details are in Section 6B of the Privacy Policy and in the Terms of Service.

  • Disconnect: remove Wally in the connector or app settings of ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Revoke Google access: remove Wally at myaccount.google.com/permissions. This also stops the app's Google Drive sync until you sign in again in the app.
  • Delete your data: delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account). The connector then stops working and forgets your sign-in.
